Good morning, Happy Campers!
It’s Tuesday, and we hope your week’s off to a great start.
Speaking of great starts, we’ve got something a little… Psilly, to share! We’re all big fans of plants ‘round these parts, but did you know that functional mushrooms can give ya a boost, too?
Functional mushrooms are fungi that have added health benefits beyond just their nutritional value! We’ve taken a lichen* to 3 in particular: turkey tail, lion’s mane, and reishi!
- Turkey tail is known for its incredible antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
- Lion’s mane is predominantly known for its role in supporting cognitive health, but did you know that it’s packed full of essential vitamins and minerals, too? It’s also high in protein!
- Reishi are our soulful fungais! For centuries, Reishi mushrooms have played an important role in traditional Chinese medicine as promoting harmony and balance within the spirit! They also happen to be immune-boosting, adaptive, and great for our cardiovascular health!
We wanted to create a product that had you feeling your best while being at your best, so we did!
Happy Camper is excited to announce its new drop: Psilly Gummies! Each delicious gummy is packed with medicinal mushrooms (and a little ganj) that’ll work their magic on your health system! Turkey Tail, Lions Mane, and Reishi are powerful antioxidants with adaptogenic properties to reduce the body’s stress and have us feeling our best. We added just the right amount of THCP to have you FEEL your best, but our trifecta of fungi will help you BE your best. This holistic synergy encompasses the vibe of our spirit and we’re so excited to share them with you!
Let’s grab our shovels and dig up some dirt on these mindful mushies!
The Goods
Turkey Tail: Turkey tail (aka: Trametes versicolor) is what’s known as a functional mushroom! Functional mushrooms tend to be less palatable to the taste, but are great for our bodies. Functional mushrooms are often taken as a supplement, tincture, or powder. Turkey tail mushrooms can be foraged along the underside of dead trees and are known for their fan-like, colorful texture. Its colors are a chunky mix of white, tan, brown, and gray!
For millena, turkey tails have been utilized for their incredible antioxidant properties! They’re packed full of polysaccharides, polyphenols, tocopherols, and so much more. In traditional Chinese medicine, the turkey tail (Tun Zi) was also utilized for immunoregulation. As it turns out, these fungai’s* are great at fighting off infections and do well to help an underperforming or overactive immune system. Tun Zi were also boiled and brewed into a tea to increase stamina and strengthen gut health. Turkey tail also promotes the growth of healthy bacteria in our guts because they’re full of prebiotic fiber. They work with our bodies to remove excess sugars and fats, effectively lowering cholesterol and supporting a healthy body weight! Turkey tail can also help manage inflammation in the body. They’re great for stimulating the body’s natural release of supporting compounds, reducing inflammation or swelling around the inflicted area.
Lions Mane: This guy’s pretty well known ‘round these parts and goes by a myriad of names: Lions Mane, Bearded Tooth Fungus, Pom Pom mushroom, or Hericium erinaceus, if you happen to be a mycologist! Either way, lion’s mane is giving us a lot to think about.
Known predominantly for its role in supporting cognitive health, lion’s mane (also a functional mushroom) can be eaten and is tolerable to taste – unlike our aforementioned friend, the turkey tail. Many people compare the taste and texture to that of seafood. It’s also a great protein supplement for vegetarians and vegans! It’s a pretty packed bowl, folks- these mushrooms are high in protein, vitamins, minerals, and provide sufficient carb intake.
More than just a meaty mouthful, lion’s mane mushrooms are packed with nootropic compounds! You might be wondering, what does nootropic mean? This just references a compound that’s good for the brain and helps to support its natural cognitive functions. These bioactive compounds – like erinacine and hericenone – stimulate nerve growth and were cited in a 2020 study as a possible preventative measure of early Alzheimers. Lions Mane are also antioxidant and anti-inflammatory! Research suggests that the anti-inflammatory properties of the phytochemicals found in fungi reduce the risks for respiratory infections and can aid in quelling allergy symptoms.
Reishi: Reishi mushrooms have been highly regarded for centuries for their immune-boosting, adaptive, and cardiovascular benefits! Commonly dubbed as the “elixir of life”, Reishi has a long standing as a symbol of success, longevity, and divinity. In traditional Chinese medicine, Reishi (or Ling Zhi) aligns our bodies (jing) energy (qi) and spirit (shen) for complete harmony and balance.
If you’re on the hunt for reishi, you might find yourself at odds with possibility – even though it can be found within the dense forests of Asia, Europe, South America, and North America; it’s rare to come across in the wild. They’re often distinguished by their sheen, and glossy texture. Reishi can be kidney, almost half-moon shaped, and are a mix of deep reds and browns. At a diameter of almost 8 inches, you can certainly see these guys if you do happen to cross them!
Research and clinical case studies have shown that the complex polysaccharides in Reishi mushrooms act as super-charged battery packs for our immune systems! By increasing immunoglobulin levels, Reishi are able to help the body fight off invading pathogens and microbes. Their adaptogenic properties can also help the body adapt to a myriad of other biological, chemcal, or physical factors. Reishi mushrooms are also linked to hormonal regulation!
THCP: THCP is one of the minor cannabinoid derivatives currently available on the market. As an analog of Delta 9 THC, THCP (or Δ9-Tetrahydrocannabinol) is quite potent! Some users say that it can rival that of its parent (D9), but its effects are highly debated as it’s still fairly new to our market. You might be curious as to what makes THCP so intoxicating – well, we’ve got that down to a science! And it’s all in the atoms. Research has taught us that for psychoactivity to occur in THC, its molecule must contain 3 carbon atoms along its alkyl chain. THCP has 7 carbon atoms, which is likely accounting for its peak in potency.
Grab & Go on the Road
Before packing up and hittin’ the rainbow road, stick some Psillies in your tote! They make a great adventuring companion. One of our favorite pit stops is along the Blue Ridge Parkway of Western North Carolina! Think of the Parkway as a big basecamp for hikers: all along the Parkway are scenic trails of varying difficulty; some trails are short and scenic while others require both gear and grip – no matter the vibe, our Psilly gummies can elevate your experience. Quarter piece… you’re definitely hangin’ and more present in your surroundings. Take it up a notch and pop in 2… then you’re just fly’in high and vibin’ like a freebird. It almost feels as though the world turned up its saturation: the trees are more dense and green, the birdsong’ call sounds just a little more sweet… Psilly gummies are a feel good, BE good treat!
We’re so excited to have you come along this journey with us! The Happy Camper itself is a community of like-minded people that care about this beautiful planet and each other. We dug up the dirt on these magical mushies and wanted to find a tasty way to incorporate them into our daily lives; they’re so beneficial to your health! Functional mushrooms – like our turkey tail, lion’s mane, and reishi – have incredible antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties! They’re also prebiotic and fibrous, so they’re good for our tummies, too.
We added just enough THCP to have you feel your best while the mushrooms work their magic to have you BE your best! THCP is an analog of Delta 9 THC, which is a cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant. THC is known for its psychoactive properties, or the “high” commonly associated with cannabis. THCP’s effects are similar to that of THC, but more potent and stimulating! Our dose pairs perfectly with Summer sun, leisurely hikes, or endless waves.
